Label TextKing William III and his wife, Queen Mary II, served as co-monarchs when they came to the throne in 1688, a moment known as the Glorious Revolution. They reunited Britain after a tumultuous period. The College of William and Mary was named for the monarchs who issued the charter that established the school in 1693.
Half length portrait facing right. He is dressed in armour with a cloak over it. The frame is hightly decorated with roses, thistles, lilies, acorns, and oranges. There are shields in the four corners representing France, Ireland, England, and Scotland.
