Label TextAlthough granted its charter in 1606, Virginia did not pursue the right to coinage until the eve of the Revolution, when the Tower Mint struck the only colony-specific issue ever fully authorized.
Slightly larger and heavier than regular production halfpennies, this prototype coin was struck from specially prepared dies on a specially prepared copper planchet. Known as a proof, the coin can be recognized by its mirror like surfaces and razor-sharp details.
