DescriptionMiniature rectangular quilt for dollhouse. Top is made of Indian mordant-painted and resist-dyed printed textiles, pieced together to resemble a palampore with a central floral vine and bordering geometric and floral patterns on all four sides. Quilted with yellow silk running stitches, 7-8 per inch, to yellow silk backing in a pattern consisting of a central medallion, hearts in each of four inner quarter-rounds, and lines at the borders. Old linen quilting stitches are visible on the chintz side, but do not go through to the back, suggesting that the piece was made from an earlier quilted object. The batting is wool.
ProvenancePurchased by donor from an antique shop. Originally purchased from Ann Gray who got it from an estate auction West of Richmond, Virginia.
