DescriptionTin-glazed earthenware tile decorated with cobalt blue over-glaze painted ornament in the center of the tile. The decoration comprised of a bird perched on a cluster of grapes still attached to a vine.ProvenanceAccording to the donor, these tiles were given to her mother during the 1960's by a man named Mr. Bailey who worked in Williamsburg. He helped demolish old houses in Williamsburg and these tiles came from a fireplace somewhere in Williamsburg. The backs of these pieces have concrete on them that dates to the 1940s so they were likely not removed from an original eighteenth-century location.
