DescriptionSingle stocking of cream white cotton knitted in stockinette stitch with a seam running up back of leg. Top of stocking is marked with red beads in a pattern spelling a name "L Raftart (?)" and the date "1843." The mark is oriented so it is upside down, or readable from the top down.ProvenanceProbably purchased by donor's parents, Harry (Tommy) and Dorothy Tucker, in the vicinity of Kansas City, Missouri. The stocking was used as the donor's Christmas stocking in the 1940s.
