DescriptionSmear-glazed stoneware cream jug of squat neoclassical shape. Raised roundels at the rim and anthemion leaves at the shoulder. Figures of Hope and Wisdom respectively depicted on opposite sides, each figure within an arched cartouche. There is a large chip missing on the spout.Label TextThis cream jug has a history of ownership and use in the St. George Tucker House in Williamsburg, Virginia. It most recently belonged to Cynthia Kimbrough Barlowe, a descendant of St. George Tucker. The cream jug was likely owned and used by the family during the nineteenth century.
ProvenanceThe cream jug descended to Cynthia Kimbrough Barlowe from Janet Coleman Kimbrough who received it from George Preston Coleman who inherited it from Cynthia Tucker Coleman (APVA founder) who obtained it from Nathaniel Beverley Tucker who inherited it from St. George Tucker (died in 1827).
