DescriptionBlack and white etching with period hand color which depicts the large Cerro de Potosi. At the foot of the mountain is a town comprised of small white houses with red pitched roofs. At the peak of the mountain the phrase "CERRO de POTOSI" is engraved. The whole image is encapsulated in a gold colored border and is labelled at the top center "DESCRIPTIO NOVE HISPANIC." It is possible that the print comes from the book "Tabularum Geographicarum Contractarum" by Petrus Bertius. Printed in Amsterdam in 1616 the book contained plates engraved by Jodocus Hondiu.
