DescriptionDish excavated from the site of the Governor’s Palace, 20AA–00193Label TextThe lotus plant, much loved in China, appears frequently on porcelain for domestic and export markets. Pieces ornamented with pink lotus leaves and gilding were popular in England and colonial America. The combination of the lotus pattern decorating the rim with the river landscape in the center of this archaeological example is unusual. While the design is not rare, this particular combination is uncommon.
