DescriptionFour-gallon salt-glazed stoneware storage jar with coggled decoration around the neck of the vessel, below the rim and above the handles. At the midpoint between the two handles and below the coggled decoration the vessel is stampled "4" in a circle to indicate four gallon capacity. Below the capacity mark are the stamps "MORGANTOWN" above "POTTERY". The coggled decoration depicts houses, trees, and a fence. The lug handles have molded applied geometric designs on the tops. The handle attachment points are highlighted with cobalt blue and there are a few random dots of cobalt on the side opposite the stamped marks. ProvenancePurchased using C. Thomas Hamlin III Fund.
