DescriptionThis is a rectangular grain sack made of coarse natural color linen (tow), woven in a tight tabby weave. The open end of the sack is finished with a 1/4" hem. The closed end of the sack is joined with a flat felled seam. The sack is made from a single width of linen which is folded in half and closed with a flat felled seam. Two eyelets are positioned on either edge of this seam near the open end of the sack; these would have been used to hold the drawstring. The initials "J.H.R" are stitched in double cross with gold-colored silk thread. Near the bottom of the sack on the back side are several pencil marks including "#3".
