DescriptionPlate without a foot ring. Bluish tin glaze decorated in tones of blue with a naturalistic half-length portrait of george I in royal robes and the initials GR, all within concentric banding.
Label TextThe drawing on this plate is slightly more accomplished than many of the royal delft portraits of the eighteenth century. Its design source appears to be a 1714 painting by Sir Godfrey Kneller from which many engravings and other paintings were derived. The Bristol attribution is based on the shape of the plate.
