DescriptionSquare basket with pierced flared sides, ropelike edge and handles, andflared foot with circular piercing. Blue tin glaze decorated in blue on
the interior with a vase of flowers, two baskets of fruit, birds, butterflies,
insects, the initials S and B, and the date 1679. Piercing outlined and ropework picked out in blue.
Label TextThis type of decoration adapted from oriental porcelain, particularly the flowers, is found on German and Dutch delft as well as on English. The same form is found in English beadwork baskets. Four delft baskets dated between 1676 and 1681 are recorded, most of which are considered to be of Continental origin.
