One of Coxe’s main responsibilities was arming the militia, particularly during the War of 1812. This is a broadside issued by Coxe soliciting black walnut gun stocks for the use of the United States Government. Coxe was instrumental in the adoption policy that relied on military contractors to support the federal arsenal. The government’s patronage of arms manufacture encouraged the production of interchangeable parts and the industrialization of weaponry in the Early Republic. The date, which is not filled in suggests that this particular broadside was never used.
