DescriptionChair upholstery, "Turkey work" (removed from chair of same number). Ghiordes knot; one shoot of weft after each row of knots; 56 knots per square inch. Colors: Ground - field and border, creamy-white. Pattern: yellow, pink brick-red, red, light green, dark green. The pattern of the field is one of interlaced scrolls bearing roses. The border contains angular interlacings.Label TextTurkey work was woven in England in a technique much like oriental carpets. It was fashionable for cushions and chair upholstry. Sets of chair seats and backs were frequently exported to the colonies where they were used to upholster American made chairs.
