DescriptionMoquette, wool velvet, plush; ground warp and weft of natural brown hemp; pile warps of indigo-blue, and natural-white wool with white spun silk, woven in a velvet (plush) weave. The central motif of the symmetrical design shows floral garlands terminating in elaborate tassel, flanked by bouquets composed of three stiff-stem carnations tied together with ribbon bow-knots; wool pile cut, silk pile left un-cut. Shape indicates once used on upholstered side chair - seat and back in one piece.1776 (dated)
