DescriptionCandlestick and detachable nozzle: waisted socket with gadroon molding at top and base. Upper of stem of octagonal vase form between gadrooned bands; the lower part circular with 2 ring knops. Base with central leaf-capped dome flaring to square with gadrooned edge. Crest of griffon's head erased is engraved on base on one side of stem, crowned bearded man on other. Removable bobeche with square flange and gadrooned edge. Crest of griffon's head erased is engraved on flange.
Label TextA very similar candlestick of 1771/72 by Ebenezer Coker of London is among the Carter family silver at Shirley, Charles City County, Virginia.

MarkingsUnder base(one mark in each corner): lion passant; leopard's head crowned; date letter "C" for 1760-1761; black WC under crown in trefoil. On socket: lion passant and maker's mark.
