DescriptionCircular bowl with rolled edge at rim and curved sides with lower part chased with alternate spiral flutes and gadroons; stem composed of two spool-shaped sections with narrow gadrooned banding between; circular base with alternate flutes and gadroons extending downward from stem with band of alternate spiral flutes and gadroons at shoulder. Engraved crest of a cockatrice with wings expanded on face of bowl below rim.
Label TextA similar goblet by John Hoyland & Co. with the lower portion of its bowl chased with pointed bands of reeding is in the Sheffield City Museum.
InscribedOwner's crest engraved on face of bowl below rim.
MarkingsMaker's mark "JHC" in conjoined script letters within a conforming reserve stamped three times on face of bowl below rim.
