DescriptionDouble-handled vase: square plinth rises to circular stepped trumpet-shaped foot with spool juncture that supports a baluster vase. A threaded metal rod with washers and a wingnut joins the stem and foot with the vase container. Two elongated ear-shaped handles with roundels at the upper terminals applied vertically to opposite sides of the vessel. Gilding or traces of gilding on the plinth, foot, trunk, trumpet-shaped upper portion of the vase, the top rim, and the handles. The body of the vase painted in the round with two connected scenes: one side with an Italianate-style building amidst trees and a grassy landscape, two small figures in the foreground on a grassy and dirt path; the other side with three women in yellow, purple, and pink gowns respectively amidst trees and a shrubs, the woman in the purple gown wearing a plumed hat while and on a swing, flanked by the woman in the yellow gown also wearing a plumed hat on her left and the woman in the pink gown on her right, each of them assisting the woman in purple as she swings.
ProvenanceAccording to family tradition, originally purchased by Richard Jennings Tucker and his wife of New York and Bermuda or Robert and Sarah Tucker. Descended to Catharine Fitch Tucker [February 28,1879-August 22,1970] who gifted the piece to her neice, Joan Leonora Tucker Fowle [October 19, 1929-January 26, 2023], then it descended to Wendy Susan Tucker.
