DescriptionThis is a rectangular grain sack made of a coarse natural color bast fiber, probably linen (tow). The textile is woven in tight tabby-weave. The open end of the sack is finished with a 1/4" hem. The closed end of the sack is joined with a flat felled seam. The sack is made from a single width of linen which is folded in half and closed with a knife edge seam. A string is tied around this seam near the top of the bag. The name "H.H. LEATHERMAN" is stamped in black ink just above the bag's midpoint.Markings"H.H. LEATHERMAN"
ProvenanceThe grain sack was acquired with linen bed sheets, mattress covers, and other grain sacks said to be "Pennsylvania Dutch."
