DescriptionShallow dish-shaped stand on three legs composed of flat scrollwork and bun feet. White tin glaze decorated in blue with Chinese buildings in a landscape inside a scroll-painted border. Feet painted blue and scroll knees painted with a stylized oriental pattern.Label TextAs in silver, salvers of this size are generally considered teapot stands, but they could have been intended or used for other purposes. In porcelain, teapot stands are only sometimes considered part of a complete tea service, which may account for their great rarity in delft of the mid-eighteenth century, the period from which most delft teaware survives. Most surviving examples are painted with varying oriental landscapes. All published examples and the many unpublished ones in a private English collection can be attributed to London on the basis of their design or glaze.
