DescriptionFlagon. Peaked bell-shaped finial on round-topped double-domed circular cover with projecting flange with incised molding at edge and short bezel on underside fitting within rim of body; chair back thumbpiece with oval piercing in center soldered vertically at right angles to upper hinge plate soldered to cover; tall tapered straight-sided cylindrical body with multiple molding and triangular spout with drop at rim, broad reeded band above center, and multiple molding above broad concave skirted base with incised molding at edge; lower hinge plate soldered to face of double S-scroll handle of D-shaped section with bud terminal attached to rim and lower section body.Label TextThe presence of a strainer with large circular perforations indicates that this flagon (right) was most likely made for tavern use and that a strainer of this type was intended to retain the hops.
