DescriptionCircular molded and shaped bobeche in the form of fluting, circular molded socket with molded top mid-band and base, above short waisted, molded and turned section over inverted octagonal baluster form with molded and shaped decoration on the shoulders and sides over circular flattened knop, splayed circular base with simple circular molded band over shaped and molded foot. Engraved coat of arms on foot, chevron engrailed between three pheons in foliate cartouche.
Label TextA pair of candlesticks of the same year, probably by James Gould, of virtually identical design except for plain nozzles and the inclusion of shells in the recesses of their bases are engraved with the arms and crest of the Nelson family of Virginia and have descended with other family silver known to have been owned by Thomas Nelson (1677-1745) of Yorktown, who married Margaret Reade in 1710.

MarkingsUnder foot, maker's mark, date letter, lion passant, leopard's head crowned. Lion passant on socket, no marks on boboeche.
