DescriptionA: Mug: white; cylindrical with spreading foot and with strap loop handle incised with 3 "X"s. Molded in relief with Royal Arms (oval shield quartered with 4 lions, fleur-de-lis, harp, and lions and fleur-de-lis; encircled (in place of garder) with band with slightly impressed rosettes; lion and unicorn supporters; and crest of crowned lion on a crown) above head and wings of cherub and below initials "G" and "R". To left is scene in relief molding with 6 ships in foreground and buildings of city in background, above is "PORTO BELLO TAKEN'. To right is full length portrait of man (Admiral Vernon) dwarfing ship (Vernons flag ship Burford) and buildings (City of POrto Bello), above is "BY: AD. VERNON". Milled band encircling mug below lip' scanthus band enci rcling above foot. B: COver: white; slightly domed with socket and milled flange; molded in relief with 3 panels each with bird and vegistation; knop in form of a human head (Bacchus) with grapes, leaves and hat on head.ProvenanceEx coll: Marc-Louis- Emmanuel Solon (1835-1912) Collection sold in Hanley Nov. 26 to 28, 1912, (according to Sotheby it was lot #348 pl.
