ProvenancePart of christening set owned by Dr. Edward Barnard. Paper tag sewn to matching coverlet/chrisom reads "Chrisom date 1763/ Belonged to Dr Barnard/ Provost of Eton College/ Lent by Wm (?) Cruickshank." The gown must have been worn by Dr. Edward Barnard's son, Edward, who was born in 1763. The child's father, Dr. Edward Barnard, was born in 1717, and married Susanna Haggett of Barbados in 1760. They had one son.
