DescriptionThis is a bed valance for the top of a tall-post bedstead. The valance is constructed of blue on white copperplate-printed cotton in a design of undulating floral ribbon stripes interspersed with naturalistic blossoms, alternating with c-scroll chains entwined with flowering vines. All four sides are bound with a folded-over textile block printed on cotton in a meandering lace-like floral pattern. The valance consists of 79 inches gathered into a heading 58 3/4 inches wide at the top (where it would be fastened to the wood of the bedstead). The valance is lined with white linen.Label TextThis valance was part of a set of bed "furniture" to enclose a tall-post bedstead. The gathered valance hid the curtain rods and other hardware.
