Label TextA plate from Denis Diderot's Encyclopédie, ou dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers" on papermaking found in "Recueil de Planches, vol. V." This plate shows the sizing of paper with a gelatinous animal glue. This was done from waste scraps of hides bought from tanneries, which were then boiled and filtered. The bottom of the print shows the baskets and tools used in this.
