DescriptionSalt Cellar: Capstan Type. Depressed hemispherical receptacle for salt with multiple mouldings encircling opening; spool-form body with bands of spiral gadroons below mouldings at rim and on convex lower section of base and tripartite mid-band around contracted middle of body.
Label TextCapstan salts, like their namesake, are of this spool form. They come both plain or, as in this instance, decorated with bands of gadrooning below the rim of the well and on the shoulders of the base, as well as bound by a broad mid-band around a constricted waist.
