DescriptionPlate with incised foot ring. Whitish tin glaze with powdered brown ground: in the center, a scalloped reserve with a bamboo stalk and flowering branch; on the rim, alternating hexagonal and fan-shaped reserves containing Ming birds and stylized flowers, respectively. Outlined and painted in blue.Label TextThere are several versions of this design, with at least two differently shaped central reserves (see CWF accession 1955-311 for the octagonal version) and at least three different ground colors, of which the dead-leaf brown here and the manganese on CWF accession 1955-311 are the most familiar. An unusual example with a green powder ground and an octagonal reserve is at the H. R. du Pont Winterthur Museum.
The London attribution is based on the color of the decoration.
