DescriptionAppearance: Side chair with curved crest rail flat on top and bottom with incurving top corners; four arrow shaped balusters framed by rounded stiles flattened on fronts above ring turnings; shaped seat; turned legs with ring turnings on front legs above and below front stretcher; front stretcher rounded on ends with rectangular panel in center; round side, and rear stretchers; black painted ground with orange sponge decoration, free-hand yellow pin-striping and red and white floral motifs (on back supports, stiles, crest rail, front stretcher, and seat edge). Construction: Legs, stretchers, back stiles and posts are all doweled-in. The back posts are lathe turned and plane-shaped (like arrows) and flanked by lathe-turned and plane-shaped stiles. All stretchers and legs are lathe-turned with the front stretcher plane-shaped in its center. The seat was shaped by hand carving and its serpentine-curved sides are unusual.
