DescriptionLadderback armchair. Three slightly curved back slats with flat tops and incurved top corners; continuous round rear posts with irregularly spaced decorative incised lines and short, tapered feet; rear posts bear egg shaped finials with three incised lines around middle, over coved necks with central flattened disks bearing two incised middle lines, over a second coved neck; turned arms have a tapered end at the rear stiles and four connected ovoid turnings incised with three lines around each middle that terminate in a barrel-shaped end which extend slightly over the turned arm supports and also have three central incised lines; round front legs with tapered feet and a matching pattern of irregular decorative incised lines to rear posts, topped with turned double baluster shaped arm supports with coved neck at base and a tapered top set off from baluster by a flattened ring turning with one central incised line; rounded double side and front stretchers; rounded single rear stretcher; square shaped woven splint seat (replaced).Ca. 1790
