DescriptionCoffeepot: Tapered cylindrical body with flared foot and long, angular spout with curved and shaped tip. C-shaped strap handle with small angular thumb grip and large shaped insert on inner curve. An additional piece of tinplated iron, called the gore, was used at the back seam to create a wider bottom. Two additional pieces form the base of the object. Hinged, double domed lid with small spool-shaped brass finial. Exterior painted vermillion red with interlaced ribbons, swags, and starbursts in lead white, Turner’s Patent yellow, and Prussian blue. Interior retains traces of tinning.
Label TextThe vermillion red paint on this coffeepot remains bright, but its Prussian blue, lead white, and patent yellow decoration have darkened over time. Patent yellow is another name for Turner’s yellow, a pigment patented in 1780.
