DescriptionOne of six plates with incised foot rings. Whitish tin glaze decorated in blue with the shield of a coat of arms without crest or supporters, but elaborated with rococo devices and flowers, surrounded by two decorative bands. Retains matching rectangular platter with canted corners and thick vertical-sided octagonal foot ring.
Label TextThe shield on this part dinner service appears to represent the Panton, Edwards, and Wynne families, all of Denbighshire in northern Wales. The arms in the first and fourth quarters, represented by three roses and a chevron, are the same as those on another delft plate in the CWF collection (accession 1975-58), suggesting that a member of the Panton family, who would have owned this service, married a female member of the Edwards family. A plate from the same service is in the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff.
InscribedOrnamented with a shield that appears to represent the Panton, Edwards, and Wynne families, all of Denbighshire in northern Wales.
