DescriptionOval snff box with hinged lid and swag engravingLabel TextThe early Britannia metal makers in Sheffield produced large quantities of small snuff boxes from rolled sheet metal and decorated them in much the same way they did their early tea wares. Most are handsomely engraved in early neoclassic taste with decorative borders and shields or cartouches for an owner's initials. This maker has, on occasion, been confused with George Coldwell of New York City.
