DescriptionPunch bowl with almost cylindrical foot ring. Bluish tin glaze very simply decorated in blue: on the exterior, a small geometric band around the rim and near the foot ring; on the interior, a band with a Chinese scroll-like motif around the rim and within a circle on the bottom the inscription "Success to the King of Prussia."Label TextThis bowl is very simply decorated in blue: on the exterior, a small geometric band appears at the rim and near the foot ring; on the interior, a band with a Chinese scroll-like motif appears around the rim and within a circle on the bottom is the inscription "Success to the King of Prussia." It is rare to find such minimalist decoration on an inscribed delft bowl. The base of a punch bowl inscribed "Success to the St. Olave Privateer" was excavated in Williamsburg at the Nelson-Galt House (9JA.OO36). The lettering is so similar to that on this bowl that it is believed they were painted by the same hand. The London attribution is based on the glaze.
