DescriptionPunch bowl with short cylindrical foot ring. Whitish tin glaze decorated in blue line and wash: on the exterior, a Chinese landscape and a figure; on the interior, three floral sprays on the rim and in the center the following inscription: "Drink About / See it Out / Come be quicker / fill more Liquor."Label TextInscriptions pertaining to drink were common on punch bowls. This example is inscribed "Drink About / Set it Out / Come Be quicker / fill more Liquor" in the center of bowl. In addition to the most popular, "One bowl more & then" (see CWF accessions 1954-922 and 1951-109), other lines or verses were also used, including "A little more spirit would make this punch good," "Fill the other bowl boys," "Drink drink whilst ye have breath for there is no drinking after death," and "Fill this bowl landlord."
The Liverpool attribution is based on the style of decoration.
