DescriptionRed damask sack back gown with stomacher front and closed- front skirt. Neckline of bodice, front edges and waistline flaps are trimmed with gathered self fabric applied in serpentine line and edged with braid. Sleeves reach to elbows, ending in double flounces and trimmed with braid. Linen bodice lining is lightly metal boned and laced at center back and front. Skirt pleated to waistline with drop front panel and tape ties. Skirt consists of seven selvage to selvage p¢anels. Fabric is a silk damask in a floral and serpentine lace design. Button sewn to waistline at sides. The cut of the gown at the waistline is atypical and may indicate later alterations of the costume.Textile ca. 1750; gown ca. 1770
