DescriptionCast silver salt: compressed spherical body with short, waisted neck and gadrooned rim with scrolled breaks at intervals. Body covered with scrollwork and supported on three short cabriole legs with scrolled feet. Interior of bowl is gilded.InscribedEngraved on side with unidentified crest of a demi-griffin
MarkingsMarked in relief with 1) sponsor’s mark "EW" in Gothic letters with Prince of Wales feathers issuing from crown above and within conforming reserve [Grimwade 1990 #656]; 2) lion passant; 3) leopard’s head crowned; and 4) Gothic “E” date letter for 1760-61.
