DescriptionCup with slightly flared sides and loop handle with scroll base terminal. Bluish tin glaze decorated in blue with a cartouche consisting of a cherub's head, flowers, scrolls, and grapes, inscribed "A. Wigglesworth / 1767." Brown rim.Label TextThis delft cup is inscribed "A. Wigglesworth / 1767." It is unusual to find such an inscription on a cup that is part of a regular tea service. This example was surely made at the same time as an inkstand in the CWF collection (accession 1990-153). The latter exhibits the same cartouche and inscription, but with the first name Henry replacing the initial A. The two objects may have been presentation pieces for a husband and wife rather than individual pieces from an entire tea and coffee service.
InscribedInscribed "A. Wigglestorth / 1767."
