DescriptionCylindrical mug with sunken base, strap loop handle with coil at lower terminal. Bluish tin glaze decorated in blue with chinoiserie landscape including buildings, rockwork, and trees, all framed by scrolls with occasional leaves and flowers.Label TextSeveral delft mugs in this and similar patterns have survived. One privately owned example was pinched by the potter at the lip opposite the handle while the clay was still soft, transforming it from a mug into a jug. A mug in a private collection and featuring very similar decoration, including the unusual use of scrollwork, is dated 1767.
