DescriptionThis pieced, rectangular fragment of maroon silk has isolated motifs of yellow, stylized stems of flowers. Thin, hammered silver floats in the weft direction over the maroon ground. The silver or silver gilt over the flowers is wrapped around a silk core. The floral design is feathery, with one, large pomegranate-shaped flower and two smaller feathery flowers. There is subtle outlining and scrollwork around the flowers formed by foregoing silver floats. The document is pieced from six fragments with most of the seams patterned matched. The edges are raw, with small portions of pinking. The seam allowances are also left raw.
Label TextThe stylized flowers on this silk fragment are a very typical design.
