DescriptionThis is a white embroidered bed counterpane consisting of three panels with cotton warps and cotton wefts woven in a diaper pattern and embroidered with double rows of tufting with some French knot fillings. The tufting forms a border of pointed elliptical leaves, which follows the scalloped edges of the coverlet on three sides. The center of the coverlet has a symmetrical motif consisting of a pointed elliptical leaf, a large six-petalled flower, and tulip-like flower flanked by large scrolling leaves.
Label TextThis bed counterpane is composed of three panels in a woven diaper pattern and embroidered with double rows of tufting with some French knot fillings. The technique is sometimes known as candlewicking from the thread's resemblance to the white wicks of candles.
