DescriptionAPPEARANCE: side chair with straight legs, incised with vergier marks and facted on all sides with spokeshave marks; rear leg posts topped with a single raised disk surmounted by an inverted trumpet-turned neck that is filleted at the top, upon which sits a flattened ball finial with an incised line around the center (each finial may be missing a smaller turned element at the top; front leg posts rounded off at top above seat; chair back consists of two split blausters turned with elongated urn forms separated by double raised rings, with a flat terminus at either end of the baluster; balusters set into rectangular rails with decorative scratch beading on all surfaces; shaved seat lists, sides set above the front and rear lists; single, plain rung on back of chair, with double plain rungs on sides and front. CONSTRUCTION: rectangular rails dowelled into rear legs; bannisters tenoned and not glues into rails; lists and rungs dowelled into leg posts.
