DescriptionTextile document, probably once a curtain, patterned with indigo resist ("paste work") in a design that includes pheasants perched an undulating gnarled branches amid large pineapple-like flowers, pods, and leaves. Block-printed and resist-dyed in two shades of blue on white plain-woven cotton. Fade lines reveal that the textile once had 1 5/8-inch wide trimming stitched in place.ProvenancePurchased from a Hudson Valley, New York, dealer.
