DescriptionWoman's round gown with raised waistline in block printed cotton in delicate meandering rose pattern on white ground. Gown has collarless, low rounded neckline, opening at front with drawstrings in neckline casing and another drawstring in self-fabric tunnel casing under bust. Front opening extends down 7" from lower casing. Skirt front is sewn to bodice just beneath casing. Sleeves are tight, cut to curve over elbows and ending just below elbows. Gown back bodice and skirt are cut in one, shaped with a series of pleats that open into the skirt to create fullness. White tabby linen bodice and sleeve linings. Front bodice lining consists of separate panels designed to pin over bust under the gathered primary fabric.ProvenanceAccording to donor, gown has a possible New York history.
