DescriptionOval dish with rococo scalloped rim, high vertical foot ring, and openwork trellis cartouches at the end and sides. Molded in relief with trellis diaper pattern, which is mostly obscured by a thick whitish tin glaze. Decorated in blue with delicate floral sprays in the well and in between the cartouches, all surrounded by rococo-style lines, and outlining around the pieced areas.Label TextThe mold for this dish was likely intended to be used for the production of porcelain, salt-glazed stoneware, or another ceramic with a thin transparent glaze. That conclusion is based on the fact that the dish's relief molding in basketwork and diaper is lost beneath the thick opaque glaze, which suggests a Liverpool attribution. Other aspects of the dish, however, relate to a similar, privately owned piece decorated with figures found on Irish examples. That, in turn, may point to a Dublin attribution.
