Reverse: Reverend James Blair on bended knee receiving the charter of the College of William and Mary from Their Majesties (1693).Label TextThis medal was one of eight originals awarded by the College of William and Mary. Beginning in 1772 and continuing through 1775, two were given each year, one in classics and one in natural philosophy. The awards were established by Lord Botetourt March 20, 1770. Nathaniel Burwell won this particular medal in 1772 for his mastery of natural philosophy.
