DescriptionTextile panel of block-printed indigo resist featuring the Old Testament Biblical story of Joshua, who succeeded Moses, and Caleb, who drove the giants out of Hebron and inherited the land. Motifs are arranged in horizontal rows and include a row of domed buildings; a grapevine; the words Josua und Caleb; two men bearing large grape cluster on rod over their shoulders; a standing man holding a staff and the words Moses and Hebron. Panel is made of two 29-inch selvage widths, seamed down center by hand, with sections repaired by machine. Narrow hems finish top and bottom, with one section machine stitched. Selvages form edge finish. Machine-stitched piecing at lower right.1702 (dated)
