DescriptionShallow plate without a foot ring. Blue tin glaze decorated in blue with bust portrait of George III and the initials G'''R.Label TextBy the time George III came to the throne the interest in representing monarchs on delft had waned. Two other George III plates are recorded, and at least one other is unpublished. The portraits are the same as this, but the details are painted in manganese. It has been suggested that this was taken from a portrait of George III by Jeremiah Meyer. The existence of a companion plate depicting Queen Charlotte suggests that these were produced for the royal wedding in 1761. The London attribution is based on the shape of the plate and the subject of the decoration.
