DescriptionShield-shaped back with molded faces on stiles and crest rail; splat composed of three separate, shaped, vertical ribs; center rib pierced and fan-shaped at top with inlaid oval containing floral motifs and a single pierced teardrop below; side ribs each with acanthus leaf carving at top with pair of piercings below similar to those on center rib; seat with curved side rails and serpentine front, upholstered over the rails and originally finished with brass nails; tapering front legs with string inlays and ebonized wood cuff inlays; rear legs square in section, tapering slightly and flaring to rear; braced by rear and H-plan stretchers.InscribedNone
ProvenanceFound on the Eastern Shore of Maryland by Deanne Levison, who later placed the chair with source. Chairs from the same set and with the same history survive in a private collection in Florida.
