DescriptionMan's leather shoe of the type known as a brogan or blucher boot originating from the Richmond Arsenal. Shoe is a "straight" with squared toe and 7/8" stacked leather heel. The upper leather has the flesh (appearance of suede) side out. Upper consists of three pieces: the vamp and a quarter section in two parts, with no back seam. Hand stitched. Soles double pegged with closing stamps of concentric circles. A vertical row of diagonal pegged lines runs between the two closing stamps of the arch and ball of the foot. At the bottom left of the boot heel are a set of faintly stamped letters, possibly an inspector's stamp. The letters have been identified as reading "RCH" for the Richmond Arsenal. Although much of the letters have worn away.MarkingsRCH, for Richmond Arsenal stamped at the bottom left corner of the shoe heel.
